The Naturally Artistic class combines your child's love for Nature with their passion for Art. The environment provides a plentiful bounty of materials and mediums, which are just waiting to be used by an eco-aware artist. We'll be taking your child on an exploratory ride using natural or recycled materials in combination with natural mediums.
Each class will begin with a brief discussion about an environmental issue. Students will then be introduced to one or more new materials or mediums and they will discuss how they help reduce environmental impact. Whether they are creating a salt painting on canvas, or using colour dyes to paint in milk, your artist will be learning to appreciate the natural beauty of everyday materials.
The Fall Term will make the most of the good weather and use natural materials directly from the outdoors. Parents can expect their artists to bring home projects using leaves, flowers, pine needles and other interesting pieces from nature.
Because we want to encourage our artists to duplicate their success in class on their own at home, we will transition to using different natural materials which are more readily available in the Winter Term. Your artist will find it easy to get the materials they need to duplicate fantastic projects like salt paintings and egg shell mosaics.

Fall 2011 Term: Superheroes
North American comic book drawing has been led by mainstream comic houses such as Marvel and DC. Their distinct style has become the defacto standard for super hero comics for almost an entire century. The Super Heroes class learns to design, draw, ink and colour super hero comics.
Did you know that a super hero is drawn seven-heads tall? That's why they look so heroic! Children will learn the actual techniques used by professional comic book artists. The best part is that they will be using these techniques to bring their own ideas to life.
Winter 2012 Term: Manga
Japanese style comic drawing has become hugely popular with today's children. From Pokemon to Dragonball Z, and Bakugan to Avatar (The Last Air Bender), Japanese anime has completely altered the landscape of modern day cartoons. Kids Creations Manga class will teach young artists learn the stylized techniques they need to create Manga–style comics.
We start by learning the basics like drawing the stylized eyes, hair, and clothes that have become characteristic of all Japanese animation. Once we have learned the key components, each artist will design their own hero or heroine so they can create their very own Manga comic.
Each artist will be tasked with producing a 5-6 page, full colour (or inked black & white) by the end of the second term. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of our full term discount and enroll their children for both terms. Final comic pages are produced on professional comic art boards.

Winter 2012 Term: Wed. 5:30-6:30pm Feb. 1 – May 16
Young Artists tend to produce dozens of drawings and paintings from a very young age. They seem to pick-up working with pencil and paper like it is second nature. Learning to work with sculptures pushes a young artist to the next level by creating three-dimensional art with intricate textures. Above all, sculpture allows the artist to have an intimate relationship with the work being created.
Sculptures can be created as free-standing objects or they can be created in relief. Free-standing sculptures, which are able to be viewed from all sides, force children to take on a "360 degree" approach to their art. Relief sculptures, which are modeled from a flat background plane teach kids to work the border between 2D and 3D worlds of art.
The Kids Creations sculpting class will work with various mediums, and artists will learn the basic techniques on easy-to-manipulate materials like plasticine and air dry clay. Once we have practiced both relief and free-standing modeling techniques, we will move to using 'Sculpey' polymer clays to create fantastic permanent projects.
Intricate and detailed projects will incorporate a variety of different themes as we create characters, animals, and objects that will amaze and delight friends and family. We will put their imaginations to the test as we work on creating entire scenes as a group, with each artist helping to build a unique part of project. For example, a Christmas scene would require artists to work together to make everything from furniture to Christmas presents.

Painting Fantasy Miniatures will open up an amazing world of heroes and monsters. Students will be immersed into epic struggles in far-off lands as they decide the clothes, armour, expressions, and even the attitudes of their miniature creations. We will only be concentrating on the artistic aspect of painting miniatures and will not be teaching any role-playing or battle games.
Open to both boys and girls, the class will learn each step of the process, from cleaning and preparing to adding finishing touches like grass or stones for realism. Each character will be unique as the artist defines the character by selecting colours. And remember, these intricate and detailed models average only 1 ½ inches in height!
Not only are students learning important painting skills such as colour selection and blending; they will also learn general skills like patience, concentration, and a heightened attention to detail. The best part is, they learn it in a supportive group environment. Our instructors can help prevent the frustrations which come from learning a new hobby and help artists achieve remarkable results.
Students will paint, on average, 3-4 miniatures and take their projects home throughout each term. All supplies are provided and we put on a protective low-shine clear coating to ensure the model can be appreciated for years to come. The Fantasy Miniatures class provides an excellent introduction to the hobby of miniature painting which could start a journey your child may treasure for years to come.
